The CalFish map viewer and data downloads page have been updated with new content. This update includes the addition of two point layers that display the 2011 and 2012 California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s list of anadromous fish passage statewide anadromous priority barriers for removal, the addition of a layer that displays the boundaries of all of California’s marine protected areas (MPAs), and updated Chinook, coho, and steelhead ESU/DPS boundaries that match the new spatial representations and GIS data recently released by NOAA NMFS. The Passage Assessment Database contains locations and descriptions of known and potential barriers to salmonid migration in California streams.
The new Restoration Groups by Watershed tool helps facilitate collaboration by providing names of groups or agencies working in a hydrologic unit with links to their websites. A map based search for this information can be performed through the Restoration Groups by Watershed tool found on the Additional Resources tab of the Restoration Groups by Watershed program page. Information is currently available for coastal watersheds north of and including Sonoma County and south of and including Monterey County.
The CalFish Data Explorer is a new tool that allows you to quickly and easily determine if the CalFish site offers the data you are searching for. In addition, the Data Explorer includes a complete description of the different ways you can access and review each data set.
CalFish would like to bring more attention to fish passage barriers that are removed each year. Starting with barriers removed in 2011, CalFish now offers a map based search tool for detailed reports that describe barriers that were remediated.
