Programs and Projects

CalFish is a multi-agency program for collecting, standardizing, maintaining, and providing access to quality fisheries data and information for California. CalFish acts as a clearinghouse for data and information from cooperators and outside organizations. Cooperator projects are fisheries research, monitoring, or management programs being conducted by a CalFish cooperator.

Data and information generated as part of these projects are an integral part of the CalFish program and can be accessed through the main web site menu, the map query tool, or through the links provided below. Cooperator projects are typically on-going so content of these pages and the data they offer will change over time. We recommend bookmarking this site for future reference.

Anadromous abundance data are those collected by a variety of agencies and organizations and reflect current and historic abundance of anadromous fish in a selected stream or river. This link will access a data query tool which supports location and species data queries. Compiled by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission.

The Department of Fish and Game Information Services Branch recently developed a method for deriving salmonid distribution from existing observation data and creating GIS layers identifying this distribution. Currently supports distribution data for winter and summer steelhead and coho salmon.

The comprehensive Passage Assessment Database (PAD) contains information on actual, potential and possible barriers to anadromous distribution. Funded by the Coastal Conservancy and compiled by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission.

Most current and complete 1:100,000 scale routed hydrography for California. Managed by the Department of Fish and Game Information Services Branch and compiled by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission.

The California Habitat Restoration Project Database (CHRPD) contains data and information about stream restoration projects funded by a variety of agencies and organizations in California. Funded by the Department of Fish and Game and NOAA Fisheries and compiled by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, the database is the most complete source of California stream restoration projects.

Historic and current reach summaries of in-stream habitat data collected by the Department of Fish and Game and others. Contains stream habitat information for streams from Del Norte to Santa Cruz counties. Compiled by the Department of Fish and Game Biogeographic Data Branch.
