Advisory Groups and National Fish Habitat Partnerships
California Advisory Committee on Salmon and Steelhead (CAC)

"California Advisory Committee on Salmon and Steelhead Trout (CACSST) was originally created in 1970 as an advisory body to the California Legislature and the Department of Fish and Game. The CAC was expected to operate autonomously, helping ensure the political will needed to restore California's declining salmon runs. However, since the early 1990s the CAC has been neither funded nor staffed to conduct the studies and other activities necessary to fully comply with their directive to oversee California's salmon restoration program. Likewise, although annual reporting, accompanied by proposed legislative changes, as needed, was originally anticipated, it has been twenty years since the last full CAC report to the Joint Legislative Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture was prepared."

California Coho Salmon Recovery Team (CRT)

The CRT is an advisory group made up of 21 members from a wide range of interests, professions, and perspectives. The team represents county, State, and Federal governments, native tribes, commercial and recreational fishing, forestry, agriculture, ranching, water management, and environmental interests. A list of the organizations represented in the CRT is available on our Partners & Programs page.

The CRT recognizes that recovery of the coho salmon requires a cooperative effort across entire watersheds, considerable financial investment, and many years of effort. The CRT developed a mission statement to guide their effort to aid CDFW.

Within our vision of restoring populations of coho salmon, including healthy, wild, naturally reproducing populations throughout its range, and restoring Tribal, commercial, and recreational fisheries in California, it is our mission to aid CDFW in the development of a recovery strategy for coho salmon, with the goal that the species will no longer warrant listing.

The CRT meets quarterly to discuss the implementation status of the recovery strategy. The latest meeting presentations are available in the Document Library.

Fish Passage Forum

The California Fish Passage Forum, an association of public, private and government organizations, is working to coordinate and streamline permits required for restoration, and assist private landowners, community groups, and public agencies in efforts to remove migration barriers and restore currently inaccessible habitat. The Forum also seeks long-term funding for fish passage projects, and conducts workshops that provide design and project implementation assistance to landowners and local agencies.
Pacific Marine and Estuarine Fish Habitat Partnership (PMEP)

The Pacific Marine and Estuarine Fish Habitat Partnership (PMEP) is a consortium of organizations focused on West Coast fish habitat in the region's estuaries and nearshore marine waters. We invite local, state, tribal, and federal governments and non-governmental and private organizations in California, Oregon, and Washington to join this voluntary collaboration.
